Hi everyone! Here I go again with another edition of Down the TBR Hole! It’s always interesting to go back through books I added years ago and wonder what exactly was going on in my brain. This week was an especially mixed bag.
The Down the TBR Hole meme was started by Lost In a Story and it is the most perfect tool for cleaning off shelves that I’ve come across. Here’s how it works:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
THE BOOKS
THE NOVICE BY TARAN MATHARU
This book got some hype when it was published didn’t it? I remember seeing the cover everywhere, but I couldn’t have told you what it was about until I read the synopsis just now. Sadly, this really doesn’t sound like something I’d enjoy at the moment. I feel like “kid discovers he has powers and goes to school to learn how to use them” is a bit overdone. VERDICT: PASS
BENEATH BY ROLAND SMITH
This book actually sounds really, really good! But why is it middle grade? I try so hard with middle grade books, but I very rarely end up enjoying them. Still, I’m such a sucker for anything with an underground setting! The jury is still out on this, so for now it stays. VERDICT: KEEP
ODD THOMAS BY DEAN KOONTZ
Why did I add this? I’ve never read anything by Dean Koontz in my life. My best guess is I added it when the movie was being advertised. I saw the movie, I’m not sure I need to read the book. VERDICT: PASS
DIVERGENT BY VERONICA ROTH
I’m so confused about why this is here?? One version says it’s on my TBR list and another says I’ve read it. Which I have. VERDICT: READ
MR. HANDS BY GARY A. BRAUNBECK
This book looks creepy and I’m not even mad at the hideous cover. Unfortunately, the reviews make it obvious that this is another horror book that’s also a deeper, emotional story and gets into some very heavy subjects. I don’t need deep horror, I just need scares. VERDICT: PASS
